Google preannounced another Core Algorithm update today (24th September 2019).

The Core algo updates are generally fairly substantial, affecting many verticals, but mostly YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) get impacted. That’s an observation over an opinion. Surely in a couple of weeks when the SERPs have settled down, we’ll know more and should be able to provide further insights to what verticals impacted and what the Core Algorithm update sought to address in terms of providing better and richer results for the average Google user.

In previous Core updates, Google has stated that they sought to address E-A-T (Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness). In layman terms rewarding well-written content that provides usefulness to the visitor, rather than being writing for SEO purposes.

Additionally packed within a core algo update are the reweighting of older ranking signals that provide little value in the modern era of organic search. I would also assume, and this is only based on my opinion that Google also introduces new elements into the mix.

Update 25th September

Here in the UK, I’m seeing little movement across the verticals and websites I monitor. I have heard chatter across the SEO community that Germany is currently seeing above-average fluctuations in the SERPs. Further afield, very little chatter from Australia and New Zealand.

I’m seeing lots of chatter on industry news sites such as SEO Roundtable that sites are recovering from the June 2019 Core update. I will take that as good news, it appears Google is realising the impact algorithm updates have on websites, spacing out the updates giving businesses and webmasters time to address site issues, improve the content and follow best practice techniques.

I will be keeping an eye out on organic search visibility and positioning over the coming days. Search Metrics updates on Thursdays, hopefully, I can get some early indications on winners and losers. Although winners and losers are probably not the best terminologies right now. I will provide another update tomorrow.
